Testosterone is the driving force behind many of the functions that the male body has. Not only does it help produce and stimulate growth during puberty and early adulthood, but it also has great beneficial effects that include a healthy immune system, and a healthy testosterone level (as well as a good diet, and correct exercise) will help avoid osteoporosis later in life.

Testosterone, however, is mostly concentrated and associated with sex drive in both male and female genders.

Testosterone is the hormone which encourages libido, and sex drive – the same hormone which is concentrated into sprays, cream and tablets which are often used to encourage and increase blood flow to the penis and clitoris, as well as mentally enticing the male or female into sexual activity.

During growth in males, usually around the age that a young boy would hit puberty, testosterone kicks in and starts to help develop the skeletal muscle mass, hair growth (pubic, facial and general body hair) as well as a change in the voice, the growth of the Adam’s apple near the voice box, the increase in fertile sperm and a shoot in height.

This level of testosterone continues to grow and strengthen until about the average age of 50, in which the level of testosterone will start to slowly decrease.

A low testosterone level in men aged 50 and over is not uncommon and is often attributed as being the male menopause, to accompany the lower levels of estrogen and testosterone in females. A low testosterone level is not to be frightened of, and due to its common appearance among older men, the occurrence of low sex drive, a decrease in strength and muscle mass and a lower energy level there are several hormone therapies that have been researched and available for use for those that wish to participate.

Hormone therapy for males is not entirely uncommon, however many wish to let the effects take place, and combat the level of low sex drive and the rare occurrence of erectile dysfunction with pills like Viagra.

Hormone therapy can come in a range of varieties, sometimes with patches like nicotine patches, which steadily release a small amount of testosterone which can either replace the lack of testosterone, or help boost or encourage the level once more.

Pills can also be taken, however it is easier to take too many pills, or not accurately monitor your testosterone levels, which can sometimes cause baldness in males.

Testosterone levels in males are just part of a healthy level of steroids that each male produces. This anabolic steroid is part of an important stage in every male life, which helps the body grow and develop, while also increases the sexual development and muscle mass within the body.

Low testosterone levels aren’t abnormal once the male body reaches over 50, and can be combated with hormone therapy, if a doctor deems it necessary in order to keep up constant strength, a strong immune system, and avoiding deteriorating muscle mass.
